Day 3: Nutre Hogar of Panama
If there was one underlying theme that stood out today, it was that life is full of sacrifices. Life is full of drawbacks, concessions, upsets, questions. Yet, no matter how life-turning, eye-opening today's experience was at Nutre Hogar, it will never be fully understood without our first-hand experience. We students from USF Honors came to Panama to observe, act, and impact. Keen observation, though may seem the easiest step, is at times the hardest. To critically look around our surroundings and analyze what is wrong is not only frustrating but depressing. The state of things. The condition. The lives of innocents. Each child today had thier own story. And each one of us took that story and asked ourselves, "What can we do?" Sure, we helped and volunteered for them for a couple hours. Certainly, we played with the kids and made them happy as much as we can. But the most important question was, "What are we going to do about it...to change it." This experience is not for everyone--we have been blessed. Everyone goes through problems, whether it is threat to life, poverty, medical situations, yet we have been granted this opportunity. The opportunity to view the fragility of life and make an impact despite common insecurities, weaknesses, feelings of helplessness, and self-fatality. Yes, one person can make that difference. And like we said before, if you could not physically peer into a soul that has endured trauma, emotional seperation, mental disability, then you would not fully understand what impact we made. You know how much money we raised; we plan on financing items of desperate need. But to describe the emotions involved with this interaction, is far beyond words or numbers. And it is the muddle of emotions that sparked the huddle of collabaration to act and make that impact. When that yearn of attachment, formed over a temporary period of time, was broken by the rationale of our purpose, it really openned channels of thoughts that combine satiation of human desires with moral purpose to bring about the successful outcome. Es Justo, Es Razon.
